Iceland Academy of the Arts LHI
The Iceland Academy of the Arts is the only autonomous university level institution in Iceland educating art and design.
It is the policy of the Department of Design and Architecture to communicate and teach methods of problem-solving based on a wide-ranging ideology. The department’s role is to be at the forefront of technology and ideology applying a broad and open methodology in problem solving.
The department seeks to be a strong force in Icelandic society in the rapidly growing fields of information technology and creative industries.
The goal of the department is to introduce its students to a methodology based on enquiry and critical approaches, and to configure ways to react in forms and materials which appeal to society. The educational programme is intended to prepare individuals to undertake a variety of tasks creatively and critically and is meant to give students a solid knowledge of technology, norms, and media. The programme challenges students to develop organisational skills and artistic insight and to broaden their professional perspectives. Students are expected to adopt open-mindedness, learn to approach varying projects in a creative way, and to avoid uncritical thinking in their problem solving.
The policy of the Department of Design and Architecture is to aim for the future.
