University of Art and Design Helsinki UIAH

taik1TAIK is the only autonomous university level institution in Finland educating art, design and media. It was founded in 1871 and is today among the leading education in its field even globally. The three pillars upon which our reputation is build are teaching, research and societal participation.

Although our BA education is traditionally strong, the main focus is on master and doctorate education and post doc research. Due to this, we can combine the traditional art based design education with the newest developments in our field and educational practices in general. TAIK covers an exceptionally wide area of art, design and media: from art education to film, from fine art to design management, not forgetting design in its entirety.

Due to TAIK’s multi-disciplinarity, we can easily find partners among very different art, design and media institutions – thus, we have over 170 exchange partners all over the world and numerous national and international industry, business and public sector collaborators. Furthermore, the school has coordinate the Cumulus International Association of Universities of Art, Design and Media since 1990. It is the only global network of art, design and media education and research.

University of Lapland UOP

lapland1The Faculty of Art and Design in the University of Lapland was established in 1990.

Currently it hosts ca. 1000 students in five degree programmes: Art Education, Audiovisual Media Culture, Graphic Design, Industrial Design and in Textile and Clothing Design.

The faculty offers Bachelor-, Master- and Doctor -level degrees. Being situated in Lapland, the faculty has a strong focus on the northern issues in both education and research, and it is an active player in circumpolar co-operation. The multifaculty university – which the faculty is part of – offers a natural platform for interdisciplinarity in both education and research. Accordingly, research is characterized by the close interaction of science and art.
