VISUAL COMMUNICATION IN NUUK, GREENLAND

By the invitation of NAPA – The Nordic Institute in Greenland – and funded by Cirrus, KHiO in OsloLHÍ in Reykjavik will run an intensive course in visual communication in Nuuk during the first week of September.

The course will concentrate on the Inuit visual language and cultural development in graphic design. Students are to participate in seminars and research in Nuuk, looking through anthrophological material and develop as a group (not individually) a reflection in visual language that will be displayed in the end and to the Cirrus community at large. There are 6 student places available.

Course leaders are Guðmundur Oddur Magnússon, professor of graphic design in the Iceland Academy of the Arts, and Halldór Gíslason, professor in design strategy in the Oslo National Academy of the Arts.

The details of the course are the following:

  • Arrival in Reykjavik 29th August.
  • Transit in Reykjavik.
  • Leaving Reykjavik 30th August to Nuuk.
  • Returning from Nuuk to Reykjavik 6th of September.
  • Departure from Iceland 7th of September.

The course is 1 ECTS credit.

The Cirrus schools will publish the outcome of the workshop/research, visual material and reflections about the practice of such a workshop.
