MA DESIGN EDUCATION IN A NEW PARADIGM
After a successful meeting in February 2007 we want to continue our dialogue about the MA education in Design. Participants last year counted around 50 from many of the Cirrus members.
New challenges are facing Design as one of the fundamental fields in dealing with new environmental and political conditions. The Nordic design schools build on a strong tradition embedded in the crafts. This can be seen as a hindrance in a fast developing world of technology and conceptual thinking. It can also be turned into a strength if Cirrus members manage to clarify the strengths and singularities in the Nordic Zone. Master education is being developed in almost all of the Cirrus schools and discussion last year showed a clear need for coordination between members and with other actors globally in design education.
To look at the curriculum development this time it has been decided to open up the dialogue with experts from the fields on the edges of design to hear first hand ctitique of our methods and open for new possible actions.
The Form of the Symposium
The result of the plenum discussion last year and from evaluation that we received from the participants we have made the following decisions.
1. The event is for one and a half day. The whole of Thursday and until mid day Friday.
2. Participants in general wanted more free space for interaction, stimulated by keynotes rather than rigid parallel sessions.
Mid day conclusion and travel home before the working day is over.
