Teachers Meeting in Oslo 2007
Final Report written by Theodor Barth
Teachers Meeting, Journey Home written by Maziar Raein
Hello Everyone
I hope your journey back from Oslo was safe and uneventful.
On behalf on Halldor Gislason (Dori) our Dean of the Faculty for Design and all our colleagues, here at
KHiO I would like to thank you for making our symposium such a pleasurable and eventful day. The
general consensus was that the day was successful and it offered us an opportunity to learn much from
each other. If we did succeed in any way, it was due to the creation of space and time in order to discuss
our ideas as to what an MA should be for us in the Cirrus network. It was your generous contributions that made this possible.
However, we will not be resting on our laurels. We (the staff at KHiO and the speakers) spent the next day reviewing the format of the day and felt we can improve on it. The suggestions that were proposed are:
– TIME
It was generally accepted that a 2 day symposium would be more useful, allowing more time for discussion.
– FOCUS
We would gather the issues raised form your feedback (on the yellow and pink slips) and create more defined themes for discussion.
– KEYNOTE & SPEAKERS
The days should be interspersed with a number of speakers, who will raise issues for us to discuss and give us a ‘general brush stroke’ overview.
– BREAKOUT SESSIONS
These sessions will contrast the speakers and will be defined by specific practical and goal orientated workshops, allowing delegates to explore specific issues of interest.
– SHOW & TELL
On the first day of the symposium, we will aim to create a 2hr session, split into 20min slots (6 altogether) were Key Delegates will be invited to present their course and its structure as a model for discussion. Each session would end with a question, problem or theme that will raise pertinent issues amongst the delegates during the open forum discussions.
– OPEN FORUM DISCUSSIONS
The open forums should be more structured, though with a light touch! The 6 Key Delegates from the Show & Tell will be invited to locate themselves at various desks and carry out discussion with any one who is interested in their question, problem or theme. The appointed Key Speakers would provide feedback at the plenary sessions.
– WEB
We will be using the PRE Design website (see below) to allow delegates to profile themselves before they attend the next symposium. This should allow everyone time to familiarise themselves with other delegates and their interests.
– PLEANERY
The structure of the plenary seemed to be successful and we will continue to follow this format.
– FORMAT
On a personal note I am keen to collaborate and develop the format of the symposium in order to create a sense of ownership of future meetings. For this reason, I have decided to give feed back in documents such as this and those of my colleague Theo Barth’s report. We invite you to write to us and give us your opinions on the issues raised.
– ELIA
Dori will be presenting many of the issues raised at our symposium and PRE Design concerns at the 3rd ELIA Teachers’ Academy in 2007 which will be hosted by the University of Brighton 11-14 July 2007. You may be interested in checking out this conference (see below).
– THE FUTURE AT CUMULUS & PRE DESIGN
PRE Design will be represented at the Cumulus Crossing Boundaries conference were we will be picking up on many of the issues raised at the symposium. It was felt appropriate that all delegates from our CIRRUS symposium should be invited to this session. We will send you details of this session at a future date.
Thank you again and we look forward to hearing from you.
Best Regards
